Help Take the Guesswork Out of Hiring

By Pam Hall

Have you done your best to hire the most qualified applicant only to find their skill level doesn’t match your needs and expectations? The Office Proficiency Assessment Certification System (OPAC) may be able to help.

Using the computerized OPAC System, an applicant can assess skills in a number of areas. As an example, administrative assistants can take a self-administered test to evaluate their knowledge of Windows software, editing/formatting documents, spreadsheets, databases, transcription, alpha/numeric filing, and proofreading.

Financial skills, such as bank reconciliation and deposits, petty cash and basic math skills can also be assessed.

Those in legal and medical fields can benefit from a program to assess keyboarding, proofreading and terminology for each field.

After each test, a Test Report is printed out with the time, date and correct and incorrect responses. With this information in hand, an applicant can prove their skill level to a potential employer.

OPAC can be accessed at the Education Resource Center in the Rogue Valley Mall or at The Job Council, 673 Market Street, Medford or 1545 Harbeck Road, Grants Pass.

For more information about this software program, call the ERC at (541) 779-2489.
