Homeownership Makes Better Employees

By Linda Cade

Training new employees is not only expensive, it’s time consuming.  One component that adds to an employee’s employment stability is employee home ownership. Employees who have that monthly mortgage payment are motivated to keep their current employer.

The big stumbling block to homeownership, especially for first time home buyers, is the down payment and/or closing costs.  There are several government funded loan programs to address this problem.

The ABC’s of Homeownership is a workshop designed by the Homeowner Education Collaborative of Oregon.  The Collaborative is a statewide initiative which was created to support and promote home buyer education. Upon complection of this course, participants may be eligible for one of the "first time homebuyer" programs that allows them a low cost way of getting into a home.

The next workshop in English is on Saturday, May 20th, ABC’s of Homeownership workshop, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Education & Resource Center at the Rogue Valley Mall.   The Spanish Workshop is May 30th and June 1st from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Lion Sight and Hearing Center at 228 North Holly Street in Medford.  The workshop is only $25.00 per person or co-applicant.  For a registration forms, program flyers or posters, please call CCCS at 779-2273.   We also have speakers available to explain this program in greater depth at your workplace to your employees.
