What is the Rogue Valley Workforce Development Council?

The Rogue Valley Workforce Development Council is a regional board of citizens, created by the Workforce
Investment Act, passed by the federal legislature in August 1998. It consists of members representing private business, education, labor, human service agencies, and local government. 51% of the membership must come from the business sector.

This board replaces the Workforce Quality Council, which was created in 1991 by the Oregon Legislature and the Private Industry Council, a board of citizens, also consisting of a majority of private industry, which was created in 1981 by the Job Training Partnership Act. The Workforce Quality Council was mandated to develop a stronger and more diversified economy for the State of Oregon, supported by workforce enhancements initiatives such as The School to Work System and The One Stop Career Center System.

The Rogue Valley Workforce Development Council acts as advisor to the Governor on workforce issues. It is also responsible for the "One Stop" Career System, a state mandate to help all Oregon citizens enhance their job skills and find employment.
