This new award is sponsored by Southern Oregon Regional Economic Development, Inc. (SOREDI) and the Jackson/Josephine County Workforce Council. As the award title suggests, winners of the award will be selected on the strength of their innovation or creativity in workforce development. Awards will be given to winners in each of these four categories: small business (1-19 employees); medium business (20-99 employees); large business (100 or more employees); publicly funded and not-for-profit establishments.
Winners will be guests at the special July, 1998 dinner meeting of SOREDI, receive a recognition award and a $1,000 training scholarship from the Workforce Council.
Criteria for winning this special recognition will include consideration of such factors as:
- in-house training is currently provided
- wages paid exceed, or show progress toward, Oregon's "average covered wage"
- upward mobility from within--growing your own
- achievements or accomplishments that can be modeled by others
- upgrading employee skill levels
- creative or innovative practices
- unique relationships with employees, such as "a learning organization"
- tuition aid plans
- professional; development plans in place
- active support for GED's and ESL; collaboration with educational institutions and other community groups
- linkage of education/training with reduction in turnover, or other bottom line factors
