A new service offered by Goodwill Technology Services is the provision of Access Technology for Education & Resource Center patrons. Persons with visual impairments and blindness will now be able to participate in free use of the Center's computers for Internet job search, resume preparation, and health information. Print information for educational opportunities and vocational training can also be converted into accessible formats. This service expansion was made possible through collaborative efforts with the Oregon Commission for the Blind and the generous support of access technology vendors.
Goodwill Technology Services (GTS) is a demonstration and training center for adaptive technology. The Center possesses the latest computer systems and Southern Oregon's most comprehensive collection of adaptive technologies for individuals with visual impairments.
Adaptive technologies include computer screen magnification, CCTV's, speech output, hard copy Braille, and optical character recognition. Other adaptives available upon request and through local service referral include technology and devices for individuals with orthopedic or neurological injuries, hearing and speech impairments, and learning disabilities.
The goals of GTS are achieved through a variety of services that include the following:
- Comprehensive assessment of an individual's needs in school, work and home environments.
- Recommendations of adaptive technology best suited to accommodate individual needs.
- Referral to local services for specialized physical or communication technology needs, and vocational, educational, and tasks of daily living assistance.
- Classroom and in-home training of adaptive technology.
- Career exploration, job development, and job readiness instruction.
- Free public use of adaptive technology for Education & Resource Center patrons.
- Follow-up and support services
