Working Parents and the Child Care Solution

By Patti Busse

The Child Care Resource Network provides parents with the information they need in order to go to work.  Employers know what working parents experience. Child care is one of the biggest barriers to going to work. With that in mind, The Job Council created the Child Care Resource Network as part of their mission to provide individuals with comprehensive workforce development services that enable them to become skilled, productive workers in Jackson and Josephine counties.

The Child Care Resource Network (CCRN) has listings for over 500 hundred child care providers, day care centers, group homes, pre-schools and after school programs.  Caring child care specialists guide parents through the process of selecting location, type of care, and setting. They will also discuss with parents any fears or concerns they may have in the selection process.

CCRN can assist families with  resource information on family  issues, such as child development  information, parenting materials and referrals to other community services for classes or other resources.

CCRN also works at improving the quality of child care by coordinating training for child care providers. With new regulations implemented by the 1999 legislature, new providers are now required to take classes such as First Aid, CPR, recognizing and reporting child abuse and obtaining their food handler's license. The Child Care Resource Network works with other community partners to offer those classes to providers on a regular basis.  A quarterly newsletter for parents and providers with information on current parenting trends, trainings, and other resource materials is available upon request.

The Job Council's Child Care Resource Network can also work with your businessz at your job site. We offer a variety of topics on work and family issues that we can design to bring to your workers. Also available are "lunch and learn" topics provided on site. Please call our office to discuss what would work for your employees.

Besides calling us, families can now access our services for child care referrals by going to the Internet at www.jobcouncil.org
where they can fill out a child care request on-line for a quick response. You may also  call CCRN at (541) 776-1234 or toll free at 1-800-866-9034.

Bilingual staff is available for Spanish speaking parents.
